Hybrid work, changing attendance patterns, and evolving employee expectations are reshaping the role of the office. Beyond infrastructure and operations, the workplace is gradually becoming an ecosystem of services and experiences that must adapt to both the organization and the people within it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reliable air conditioning, a clean office, and well-maintained systems remain fundamental to a high-quality workplace. From an employee’s perspective, however, these are increasingly taken for granted. The question that now extends beyond the operational layer is different: what value does the workplace provide to the people who come into it? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The workplace has evolved from a place where people work into a place where people receive services,” says Omri Barzilai<\/strong>, CEO, Michlol, part of Electra FM.<\/strong> Alongside the basic need for a fully functioning workplace, he points to a growing demand for complementary services that support employees in their daily routines, from catering, wellbeing, and transportation to deliveries and other services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not simply about adding more services to the office. It represents a shift in perspective. When employees encounter operations, cleaning, maintenance, and complementary services within the same environment, they experience them as one unified journey. <\/strong> As the office becomes a platform that brings together more needs and services, the way it is managed must evolve as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less Routine, More Flexibility<\/strong>

Hybrid work is making the service model increasingly dynamic. Office occupancy changes throughout the week, and the resources and services required need to change accordingly.

According to Barzilai, this reality requires more precise planning and resource allocation based on what is actually happening at each site. One example is adapting cleaning operations on days when office occupancy is lower, reducing certain evening tasks and shifting them to morning teams.

The principle extends well beyond this example. The service model can no longer rely solely on a fixed routine. It needs to evolve together with the workplace. As a result, Barzilai says management companies must become more versatile, respond quickly to change, and continuously identify ways to adapt and improve their services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Experience Is Also Shaped by What You Do Not See<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

User experience does not begin and end with the services employees encounter in the office. For Barzilai, it is created throughout the entire service chain, from the quality and speed of response and ongoing communication, through the work of on-site teams, to reporting, site visits, and meetings with the client. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology plays a significant role throughout this process. It can make services more accessible, manage service requests, and analyze information for monitoring and identifying trends in areas such as maintenance and budgeting. But in Barzilai’s view, technology cannot replace one of the most important elements of service.
“No matter how advanced the technology is, it cannot replace personal interaction with the client.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Status calls, ongoing updates, periodic meetings, and site visits continue to play an important role in client relationships. As more processes become digital, the combination of technology and human interaction is becoming an integral part of the service experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Management Takes on a New Role<\/strong>

The transformation of the workplace is also changing the role of those responsible for managing it. According to Barzilai, tomorrow’s integrated management professional will need to combine technical knowledge and operational capabilities with financial understanding, human resource management skills, and a strong service mindset. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other words, knowing how to operate an office is no longer enough. Managers also need to understand the organization within it, the people who use it, and the relationship between the different services that shape their experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the workplace becomes a more complex service ecosystem, its management model must evolve as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within this changing reality, the way organizations choose to manage their workplaces is also evolving. According to Barzilai, many companies want to focus on their core business and outsource some operational services, while others choose a shared operating model with an integrated management company. In both cases, the objective is to allow each party to focus on where it can deliver the greatest professional value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, perhaps the most important characteristic of the future workplace is not a specific service, a particular technology, or even a single office model, but the ability to adapt.
For Barzilai, this future depends on a combination of service, availability, professionalism, transparency, and a broad range of solutions. These are also the principles that, in his view, will enable Michlol and Electra FM to play a significant role in managing evolving workplaces in the years ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As workplaces become more dynamic, the challenge is no longer simply to keep the office running. It is to connect people, services, and operational capabilities within a single ecosystem that can evolve alongside the organization and create lasting value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
